The full male Brazilian includes all of the hair on the pubic mound, shaft, scrotum, perineum, and anus. A partial Brazilian is everything except for the mound. Q. What exactly is Sugaring?
A. Sugaring is an Egyptian method of hair removal. Sugaring is more likely to yield superior results to waxing. Sugar paste is not hot, so there is not risk of burning your skin. We apply the sugar paste by hand, there are no sticks and strips. This all-natural substance of sugar, lemon, and water will not adhere to live layers of the skin, it can only adhere to dead skin and hair. This is the reason why sugaring is much less discomforting than traditional waxing.

Q. How long does the hair need to be?
A. The hair needs to be at least 1/8 inch. So if you have been shaving, please give me no less than 7 days of growth for optimal results. If you are too long, do not worry. I will trim you. *Not all Estheticians do this*

Q. What should I do before my sugaring appointment?
A. Shower before your appointment and do not wear any lotions or oils on the day of your service.

Q. What should I do after my sugaring appointment?
A. After your service, you need to keep your skin clean and dry. Do not workout and create a lot of sweating. Avoid public facilities such as tanning booths, locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools, lake or ocean swimming for 24 hours. No heavy lotions or oils. Be mindful of the products you put on your skin and the soaps that you bathe with. Many are drying. Dr. Bonner’s Castile soap diluted is a good choice. Between appointments, you need to exfoliate using a mechanical exfoliation such as an exfoliating washcloth or body brush. I encourage you to return every 4-6 weeks for maintenance visits which are easy breezy compared to the very first visit. Consecutive visits earn an incentive rate for loyalty.

Q. Does a male Brazilian hurt?
A. Well look, you are removing hair by the root. The base of the shaft will likely be the most discomforting, but dissipates within seconds. If you have been shaving, I promise you the results far outweigh the temporary discomfort.

Q. What if I get an erection during the service?
A. Erections happen but they aren’t a big deal unless you make it one. All services are rendered professionally. This is not a sensual or sexual service. At no time should there be any confusion or blurred lines about this service. Do not make it a “thing” and we will not make it one either.

Q. Why do men get Brazilians or any hair removal services for that matter?
A. Hygiene. It is more about feel than about looks. Hair holds heat and odor, which can make people feel very self conscious. It can prove to be a challenge to trim or shave hard to reach places. Shaving can create ingrown hairs and razor burn. It is a lot of effort for such short term results. Shaving simply will not get you the smooth feel that you are hoping for. When you sugar, the hair will grow back in softer. You will not be as dense and it will refine over time, meaning hair reduction.

A. Yes. 40% of my clients are men.

Q. So, if sugaring is superior to wax, why aren’t there more Estheticians who provide male Brazilian services?
A.

• The number one reason is lack of education. Many Estheticians are afraid they will hurt their client. Sugaring is a niche, it is very technical, far more technique than what I can describe in this video. There simply are not enough educators teaching male Brazilians.
• Tied with number one is the possibility of men acting like clowns, blurring the lines between a professional and sexual service. Many women hear of experiences from fellow Estheticians and they are terrified of a similar experience. They don’t know how they would handle it, so the best way is to avoid it. Some women provided male Brazilians only to have a number of unsolicited advances and finally tapped out and they stopped offering it. If you are having a challenging time finding someone, ask your lady friends if they have an Esthetician who provides male Brazilians by referral. Often time that is the case.
• Lastly, there is a significant other at home who does not want their partner doing this service.

Q. What should you look for in a professional sugarist?
A. First and foremost, they need to be a licensed Esthetician or Cosmetologist. This ensures they are meeting the minimum standard requirements for safety and infection control. If you really want to verify, it can be done on the state’s Department of Licensing and Regulation website. Their license must be prominently displayed in their place of practice.

Second, while sugaring is in the scope of practice, it is still considered advanced education in which very few students learn in their basic course of study. The best education is hands-on.  A certification will ensure they have invested resources to learn proficiently.. Do not be afraid to look for or ask for credentials.

Make sure your sugaring professional is using a manufactured sugaring paste and NOT cooking it at home. You do not know how clean their kitchen is and there may be allergy concerns. Manufactured sugaring pastes are created in a sterile environment and are insured.

Make sure your sugarist always uses gloves on both of her hands. Though each state may mandate differently, this is an OSHA law of infection control.
