Choosing between Ekseption repair creams comes down to your skin type, its current condition, and the texture you enjoy using. At Your Body’s ReTreat in Hurst, Texas, I use Ice Cream Repair, Glaciar Repair, and Caviar Repair for different client needs. Here’s how I compare them, what my clients have experienced, and how I decide which one to recommend.

All three creams have a place in my practice. The main difference is the skin type they suit and the texture they offer:

  • Ice Cream Repair is my usual choice for very dry, mature skin when a richer cream is welcome.
  • Glaciar Repair is the option I consider for oily and combination skin.
  • Caviar Repair is my middle-ground choice for normal to dry skin, including clients who find Ice Cream Repair too heavy.

Those are starting points. My recommendation comes from assessing the person’s skin and listening to their preferences.

Repair Creams vs. Maintenance Creams: Why the Difference Matters

Before comparing these three products, it helps to understand the difference between Ekseption’s repair creams and maintenance creams.

Ekseption positions its repair creams as supportive care following professional peels, with a focus on hydration and skin recovery. The brand recommends nighttime use and SPF 50 protection in the morning.

In my practice, I explain repair creams as the more nourishing part of a client’s routine when we are focusing on comfort and recovery. Maintenance products have a different role in the ongoing skincare plan, helping maintain the results we are working toward.

That does not mean every maintenance cream belongs on freshly peeled or irritated skin. I give clients specific instructions about which products to use and when to introduce or resume them.

I generally recommend repair creams at night because some feel richer than clients prefer during the day. If a client needs a daytime moisturizer, I choose one appropriate for their skin and stage of recovery, followed by sunscreen.

Ice Cream Repair: My Most Popular Choice for Dry, Mature Skin

Ice Cream Repair is my bestselling repair cream. Much of my facial clientele is concerned with dryness and visible signs of aging, so this is the one I have worked with most.

Ekseption’s product information identifies retinol, vitamin E, a repair complex, and growth factors among its featured ingredients. The formula is positioned for dry, delicate skin and post-peel care.

What stands out to me, though, is the texture.

What Ice Cream Repair Feels Like

When you first take it out of the jar, Ice Cream Repair has a firm consistency that reminds me of coconut oil before it melts. As you spread it over the skin, it softens and melts into a rich, moisturizing layer.

That richness is exactly what some clients love. When their skin feels dry and tight, they appreciate the comfort it provides.

I also notice a light vanilla-caramel scent. I enjoy it, but scent is personal, and I want clients to know about it before choosing the product.

Who I Recommend It For

Ekseption Ice Cream Repair moisturizerI most often consider Ice Cream Repair for clients with mature, very dry skin who enjoy a richer nighttime cream.

However, I do not choose it based on age alone. A client’s current skin condition, sensitivity, treatment history, and preferences matter more than their birthday.

The two objections I hear are that it feels too heavy or greasy, or that the client does not enjoy the scent. Those are valid reasons to consider another option. A cream needs to fit comfortably into someone’s routine.

Glaciar Repair: My Choice for Oily and Combination Skin

Glaciar Repair is the option I consider when a client has oily or combination skin, including clients who also experience congestion or breakouts.

It offers a cooling texture and features mineral ingredients, bisabolol, and Neodermyl. Ekseption positions it for oily and combination skin, with a fresher finish than a rich nourishing cream.Ekseption Glaciar Repair moisturizer

For someone who dislikes the feeling of a heavier moisturizer, that difference can matter as much as the ingredient list.

Oily Skin Still Needs Moisture

One misunderstanding I hear about moisturizers in general is, “My skin is oily, so I don’t need one.”

Oiliness does not tell me everything about how someone’s skin feels or what it needs. A client can have an oily complexion and still report tightness, dryness, or irritation.

I look at the whole picture instead of assuming that shine means we should skip moisturizing. I also do not expect a moisturizer alone to resolve acne. It is one part of an individualized skincare plan.

Caviar Repair: My Middle-Ground Option for Normal to Dry Skin

Caviar Repair is often the middle-ground choice in my practice. I consider it for normal to dry skin when nourishment is needed but Ice Cream Repair’s richness may be more than the client wants.

Ekseption Caviar Repair moisturizerIts featured ingredients include caviar extract, a repair complex containing ATP and amino acids, retinol, and vitamin E. Ekseption describes it as an oil-in-water formula.

When I Choose Caviar Repair Instead of Ice Cream Repair

If a client tells me, “I like how Ice Cream Repair moisturizes, but it feels too heavy,” Caviar Repair is an alternative I consider.

I may also choose it for someone with normal to dry skin who needs additional comfort without wanting such a rich finish.

I would not describe it as automatically suitable for everyone. I still assess sensitivity and review the formula. Caviar Repair is also fragranced, so switching to it does not mean switching to a fragrance-free product.

My Experience Using Ice Cream Repair in an Eight-Week Pigmentation Program

One experience that stands out comes from a pigmentation case study I entered in The Skin Games. I worked with my client over eight weeks, and the results earned third place.

We did not begin with a peel.

During the early weeks, I focused on hydrating facials and preparing her skin. Later in the program, I performed two Elaine Brennan Get Glowing Micro-Peels, spaced two weeks apart.

For her evening home care, I recommended Ice Cream Repair as part of her individualized treatment plan.

What My Client Noticed

She loved the way the cream helped ease the dryness, tightness, and itchiness she experienced during the peeling process. That comfort made it a valuable part of her home care.

Her before-and-after pigmentation results were remarkable, but those results came from the complete program: preparation, professional treatments, consistent home care, and sun protection. I would not attribute the pigment improvement to the cream alone.

The role Ice Cream Repair played in her experience was helping her skin feel more comfortable during recovery.

Do You Need a Peel to Use a Repair Cream?

No. A client can need additional barrier support without having had a professional peel.

In fact, if I assess someone’s barrier as compromised, I postpone the peel and address the skin’s condition first. That is part of why I began my pigmentation client’s program with hydrating facials.

I want the skin prepared before introducing a treatment that creates additional demands on it.

How I Decide Whether a Repair Cream Is Appropriate

I consider:

  • The client’s skin type and current condition.
  • Whether the skin feels dry, tight, irritated, or unusually reactive.
  • Their existing products and recent treatments.
  • Their tolerance for richer textures and fragrance.
  • Whether the formula’s active ingredients are appropriate at that point.

The word “repair” does not make a product suitable for every irritated complexion. Ice Cream Repair and Caviar Repair contain retinol, so I assess their suitability rather than treating them as interchangeable with a simple moisturizer.

How I Tell Clients to Use Their Repair Cream

My usual recommendation is nighttime application, with the exact routine tailored to the client and treatment.

I keep the instructions straightforward:

  • Cleanse as directed.
  • Apply only the toner or serum included in the prescribed routine, if any.
  • Gently spread a small amount of repair cream evenly over the areas we have discussed.
  • Use enough for comfortable coverage; a thick coating is not necessarily better.
  • Apply SPF 50 sunscreen in the morning and follow the treatment’s sun-protection instructions.

After a professional peel, the provider’s specific aftercare instructions take priority, including when to begin each product. I do not want clients adding extra exfoliants, retinoids, or other active products on their own during recovery.

I also want them to contact me if a product causes burning or worsening irritation instead of assuming that discomfort is something they should push through.

Which Ekseption Repair Cream Would I Choose for Your Skin?

If your skin is very dry and mature, and you enjoy a rich nighttime moisturizer, Ice Cream Repair is often where I start.

If your skin is oily or combination and you prefer a fresher finish, I would consider Glaciar Repair.

If your skin is normal to dry, or you find Ice Cream Repair too heavy, Caviar Repair may be a better fit.

My favorite is not automatically your best choice. Ice Cream Repair is the most popular in my practice because it suits many of the clients I see, but the right recommendation depends on your skin and what you will comfortably use.
