Can I get a massage after sugaring or waxing?
It depends on the area that was sugared or waxed and the type of massage you plan to receive. After hair removal, the skin may be more sensitive and the follicles are freshly exposed because the hair has been removed from the root. For this reason, we recommend avoiding friction, heat, oils, lotions, sweating, and pressure on freshly sugared or waxed skin for at least 24 hours.
If you are receiving a hands-on massage from another provider, we recommend scheduling the massage before your sugaring or waxing appointment whenever possible. If you schedule massage after hair removal, please avoid direct massage, oils, lotions, heat, or friction over any freshly sugared or waxed areas until the next day.
This is especially important after back, chest, arm, leg, bikini, or Brazilian sugaring. Massage pressure, heat, and oils may increase irritation or sensitivity if applied too soon after hair removal.
If the massage will not affect the treated area, it may be fine. For example, a shoulder or neck massage may be appropriate after a lower-leg sugaring service. When in doubt, wait 24 hours or ask your massage therapist to avoid the freshly treated area.
Your Body’s ReTreat no longer offers hands-on massage therapy. We do offer a professional automated massage chair experience when available, but the same aftercare guidance applies: avoid pressure, heat, and friction on freshly sugared or waxed skin.
