Can I use numbing cream before sugaring?
We do not recommend using numbing creams, sprays, lotions, oils, ointments, or topical products before your sugaring appointment.
Sugaring paste is water-soluble and works best on clean, dry skin. Any product left on the skin can prevent the sugar paste from properly adhering to the hair, which may make the service less effective, more time-consuming, or more uncomfortable.
Numbing creams also work primarily on the surface of the skin, while sugaring discomfort comes from removing the hair from the follicle. For many clients, topical numbing products do not make a significant difference in the actual sensation of hair removal.
There are also safety concerns. Some numbing products contain ingredients that may irritate the skin or cause an allergic reaction, especially in sensitive areas. If the skin is numb, it may also be harder for you to recognize when something feels too warm, too irritating, or uncomfortable.
For the best sugaring experience, please arrive with clean, dry skin and avoid applying lotions, oils, deodorant, creams, numbing products, or topical sprays to the area being sugared.
If you are nervous about discomfort, please let us know. We can work in smaller sections, give you a moment to breathe, trim hair if needed, and help make the service as manageable and professional as possible.
